Good News! Truman Capote's BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S is ON; Last Funding Secured and All on Schedule
Good news for the day! A statement from the production has just revealed that "Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's is ON. The producers have successfully secured funding for the Broadway production and rehearsals will continue in preparation for first preview on March 4. Audiences will indeed get to fall in love with Capote's most iconic character, Holly Golightly, live and in person this Spring."
According to the New York Times yesterday, the producers of the upcoming world premiere of Tony Award winning playwright Richard Greenberg's new play, Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's, were trying to raise funds for the show after an investor dropped out last minute. The cast, currently in rehearsals, was told that the production would be 'in jeopardy' if the necesary $1 million is not quickly raised.
The show is set to begin preview performances on Monday, March 4, 2013 with an opening night of Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Directed by Sean Mathias, it will play the Cort Theatre (138 West 48th Street).
Emilia Clarke leads the play as 'Holly Golightly,' with Cory Michael Smith as 'Fred,' George Wendt as 'Joe Bell' and Suzanne Bertish, Danny Binstock, Pedro Carmo, Elisabeth Anthony Gray, Murphy Guyer, Eddie Korbich, Paolo Montalban, Kate Cullen Roberts, John Rothman, Tony Torn,Lee Wilkof and James Yaegashi.
Based on Truman Capote's most beloved masterwork, Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's is set in New York City in 1943. 'Fred', a young writer from Louisiana, meets Holly Golightly, a charming, vivacious and utterly elusive good-time girl. Everyone falls in love with Holly - including Fred. But Fred is poor, and Holly's other suitors include a playboy millionaire and the future president of Brazil. As war rages on in Europe, Holly begins to fall in love with Fred - just as her past catches up with her.
