Godfrey Johnson

Godfrey Johnson and Nicholas McDiarmid, armed with one piano and four hands aim to seduce audiences at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre in THIS IS NOT AMERICA... HALLELUJAH with their unique brand of humour and extraordinary musicality.

In the hour-long cabaret, they perform and celebrate the genius of Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Prince, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and more, weaving a musical journey out of the Trump-esque pantsuit that was 2016. The show will include hits like, "This is Not America", "Hallelujah", "Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars" and Johnson's No 1 hit in Taiwan, "Don't Step on my Melania".

Johnson is one of South Africa's leading performing artists, with a singular reputation as a cabaret artist, composer, writer and director. The Fleur Du Cap Theatre Award winner's unique voice continues to break new ground in multiple areas. No stranger to the Alexander Bar, Johnson introduces McDiarmid to Cape Town's most intimate theatre space in this show.

McDiarmid is an award-winning writer, journalist, editor and performer, with a passion for the piano. After playing with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, he went corporate to establish a career in publishing, always performing along the way in Gauteng and Sydney.
