Garden Theatre to Present DOUBT, 2/6-22

The Garden Theatre will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama Doubt, A Parable, showing February 6 - 22, 2015 at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant St, Winter Garden). Doubt, A Parable is produced by Beth Marshall Presents and is sponsored by Insight Credit Union and The West Orange Times.

This show marks the eleventh production by Beth Marshall Presents at the Garden Theatre. Written by John Patrick Shanley, Doubt, A Parable is set in in the Bronx in 1964. This was time of immense change in our nation's history as the Civil Rights Movement was underway, riots were erupting and the world was changing at great speed. The fictional story follows a Catholic high school priest's battle for truth and personal integrity and was the basis for the 2008 film Doubt, which was directed by the author and starred Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Doubt, A Parable will leave you with questions to ponder long after the curtain closes.

Director Beth Marshall says she is often inspired by the following quote from playwright Shanley:

"Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and more energy," states Shanley. "Because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite - it is a passionate exercise. You may come out of my play uncertain. You may want to be sure. Look down on that feeling. We've got to learn to live with a full measure of uncertainty. There is no last word. That's the silence under the chatter of our time."

The cast includes Ginger Lee McDermott as Sister Aloysius, Michael Wanzie as Father Flynn, Chelsey Panisch as Sister James and Shonda Thurman as Mrs. Muller.

This will be the first appearance of these actors on the Garden Theatre stage. Ginger Lee McDermott was last seen in Orlando in Other Desert Cities and The Road to Mecca at Mad Cow Theatre. Michael Wanzie, a name synonymous with theatre in Central Florida, has been involved in over 150 area productions with 24 playwright credits to his name. Chelsey Panisch was last seen in Empty Spaces Theatre's production of Frost/Nixon. Shonda Thurman has most recently been seen in Harambe Nights, Lion King Concert in the Wild at Disney's Animal Kingdom, on stage singing with Blues Brothers at Universal Studios, in the national tour of A Christmas Carol and in Town Square's Orlando production of Disenchanted as Rapunzel and The One that kissed the Frog.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $21 for seniors and students. Show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. An Industry Night performance will take place on Monday, February 16 at 8pm with $15 tickets.
