GUYS AND DOLLS et al. Set for Centre Segal Theatre in 2012-2013

The Segal Centre for Performing Arts has announced its program for the 2012-2013 season. A wide range of events covering theatre, music, dance, film and educational and community programs will celebrate diversity, creativity and excellence.

Launching The Segal Centre's Theatre series on the mainstage is "the greatest of all American musicals," GUYS AND DOLLS. Directed by Diana Leblanc with musical direction by John Gilbert, GUYS AND DOLLS will run from September 30 to October 28, 2012

Six time Tony Award winning drama RED, in it's Montreal premiere will run from November 25 to December 16, 2012. Directed by Martha Henry, RED focuses on about two years in the life of New York abstract expressionist artist, Mark Rothko.

The World Premiere of WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS takes the stage from January 27 to February 17, 2013. Alexandre Marine has adapted the book by J.M. Coetzee and will direct this political thriller.

Another World Premiere fromn March 3 to March 24, 2013 will be THE Mahalia Jackson MUSICAL starring Ranee Lee who will be accompanied by a gospel choir. The musical follows the development of "The Queen of Gospel's" career and activism.

Montreal native/Hollywood actor, Jay Baruchel will star in the World Premiere of SHERLOCK HOLMES from May 5 to May 26, 2013.

The final mainstage production of the season is the musical TALES FROM ODESSA which will run from June 16 to July 7, 2013 in Yiddish with English and French subtitles. Based on the stories of Isaak Babel, TALES FROM ODESSA is about legendary Russian ant-hero, Jewish mob boss Benya Krik.

The Studio Theatre presents 6 different companies bringing RICHARD III, HARLEM DUET, DREAMING NOW, L'AUGMENTATION, BAR KAPRA THE SQUIRREL HUNTER and STRIA to a variety of audiences.

With a variety of artists in their music and dance series along with the unique hub for new cinema in Montreal,CinemaSpace, The Segal Centre has a lot to offer audiences in the coming season.

The Segal Academy continues to flourish. The Segal Goes to School program offers educational activities aimed to incorporate the performing arts into school carriculums.

Finally, The Segal Centre has announced the launch of the Segal Variety Program with three series to promote emerging talent: The Laugh Pack Late Show: For People Who Dig Comedy, Broadway Cafe and Waterfield's Follies: A Vaudeville Revue.
The Segal Centre is a meeting place for all of the performing arts, showcasing the best professional artists from here and abroad and playing a leading role in the artistic development of Montreal’s youth and the creation of its cultural legacy.
