It appears as if this winter is going to be a long one.

Frank Doelger, the series producer of HBO's hit fantasy GAME OF THRONES, based upon George R.R. Martin's novels, recently spoke with Radio Times about the longevity of the show.

"[The number of seasons] is being discussed as we speak. The third season was the first half of book three, season four will be the second part of book three. George R.R. Martin has written books four and five; six and seven are pending," he said. "I would hope that, if we all survive, and if the audience stays with us we'll probably get through to seven seasons."

Martin is currently writing the sixth and seventh novels of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, potentially leading to more source material for HBO to draw from.

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intriques; to the vast and savage easstern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men... all will play the Game of Thrones.

Don't miss the new original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series airing Sundays at 9:00 pm/ET on HBO.
