Although performances of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark will be suspended from April 19th through May 11th while the cast and new creative team work on implementing major revisions to the show, ticket-holders will still have an opportunity to see the webbed superhero in a musical, as the Foxwoods Theatre will be housing a limited run of The Spidey Project: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.

The Spidey Project began life on the morning of February 11, 2011 when playwright Justin Moran posted a video on Facebook and YouTube declaring that, with a budget of zero, he could have a perfectly good musical about Spider-Man written, produced and ready to play in front of an audience and be seen by the press on March 14th, the night before the then-scheduled opening night for Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark.

The hour-long musical, with book and lyrics co-authored by Moran and Jon Roufaeal and music by Adam Podd and Doug Karsaros, played two free performances at the People's Improv Theatre (The PIT) on the 14th with the complete show later posted on a series of YouTube videos.

One of those who enjoyed watching the show on YouTube was Spider-Man co-composer/lyricist, Bono, who came to producer Michael Cohl with the idea of allowing the low-budget musical to give free performances at their theatre when the Broadway production is on hiatus.

"This is all coming out of my pocket," says Bono.  "It's not going to cost our investors a cent.  We all know that people have making jokes about us since we've been postponing the opening so many times and I thought everyone should know we have a sense of humor about it all.  Besides, Justin and his friends did an amazing job on their show and I think it deserves to be seen."

As explained by Cohl, ticket-holders for all cancelled performances, will be offered refunds or exchanges and will also be offered free premium seating tickets for The Spidey Project for the same date and time.  Remaining free general admission seats can be reserved by the general public at the Spider-Man web site beginning on a date to be announced.

"Needless to say, we're all very excited for the opportunity to perform The Spidey Project at the Foxwoods Theatre," says Moran.  We're not making any changes for the larger space.  It'll still be the same small-scale show that played at The PIT.  Just with more lighting."
