Folk Music Society of NY Present Next Artist in Legends Concert Series:  Peggy Seeger, 3/28

A singer of traditional Anglo-American songs and activist songmaker, Peggy Seeger plays six instruments: piano, guitar, 5-string banjo, Appalachian dulcimer, autoharp and English concertina. She has recorded 23 solo albums and participated directly in more than a hundred others. Peggy lived in England for 35 years with singer and songmaker Ewan MacColl. The couple was instrumental in the U.K. folk revival of the sixties and seventies. She currently resides in Oxford, England.

NYC music lovers have a rare opportunity to see her live at 8 pm on Friday, March 28th, presented by the Folk Music Society of NY (aka NY Pinewoods Folk Music Club), and co-sponsored by BQ NOW (Brooklyn-Queens) and NOW-NYC (New York City) chapters of the National Organization for Women, Center for Traditional Music & Dance (CTMD), Citylore, and Center for Art, Tradition, and Cultural Heritage.

Peggy will perform both traditional songs and her own compositions, such as Gonna Be an Engineer. Her career as a musician and political and social activist spans more than five decades in the U.K. and the U.S. She has also been a teacher and involved in award winning documentary films and radio. Peggy Seeger's appearance continues the "Legends" series, featuring the giants of Americana/roots traditions.

The Folk Music Society of New York, Inc. / New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club, FMSNY is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational corporation, and an affiliate of the Country Dance and Song Society of America. FMSNY is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the membership. For "do-it-yourself singers" we host informal participatory singing/jamming four times a month: sea chanteys, a community open sing, old time instrumental jam, and Irish traditional music sessions. We present concerts, musical weekends, classes, and singing parties, all with an emphasis on traditional music of all flavors.
