The Film Society of Lincoln Center will host An Evening With Kate Winslet tonight, October 6, during the 53rd New York Film Festival. The evening will include dinner and an intimate conversation between the Academy Award®-winning actress and NYFF Director Kent Jones, and will serve as a benefit for the Film Society. Winslet will also be attending the festival on Saturday, October 3, for the NYFF53 Centerpiece Gala selection, Jobs. In the new film from Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-winning writer Aaron Sorkin, Winslet stars alongside Michael Fassbender, who plays the pioneering founder of Apple.
Set backstage in the minutes before three iconic product launches spanning Jobs' career-beginning with the Macintosh in 1984, and ending with the unveiling of the iMac in 1998-
Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.
The Film Society's "An Evening With..." program recognizes the work of individuals who have made significant artistic contributions to film culture, and will continue to do so in the future. Past participants include Pedro Almodóvar,

Nicole Kidman, Richard Peña,
Cate Blanchett,
Ralph Fiennes, and last year's guests
Ethan Hawke and
Richard Gere. All proceeds benefit the Film Society, helping to support the organization's ongoing work in education, artist development, and cross-cultural film outreach. Academy Award®-winning actress
Kate Winslet has brought to life some of cinema's most captivating and memorable roles. A six-time Academy Award® nominee, Winslet won her first Academy Award® for her role as Hanna Schmitz in
Stephen Daldry's The Reader. Winslet was also honored with Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild (SAG), British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and Critics' Choice Movie awards for the role. That same year, Winslet starred as April Wheeler in Revolutionary Road, based on the critically acclaimed novel by Richard Yates and directed by
Sam Mendes, garnering a second Golden Globe win for her performance.
Winslet grew up in a family of actors and began performing for British television when she was 13 years old. At the age of 17, Winslet made an international name for herself in
Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures. The next year, she followed that with her role as Marianne Dashwood in
Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility; for her performance, she received her first Academy Award® nomination. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe and went on to win BAFTA and SAG awards.
Winslet next starred with
Christopher Eccleston in
Michael Winterbottom's Jude and then as Ophelia in
Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet. She appeared as Rose in
James Cameron's Titanic, for which she received her second Academy Award® nomination. She was 22 at the time and became the youngest actress ever to be nominated for two Academy Awards®.
In 1999, Winslet starred as Julia in Hideous Kinky, directed by Gillies MacKinnon, and in 2000, starred in Jane Campion's comedic drama Holy Smoke. She also starred in Philip Kaufman's period drama Quills.
In 2001, Winslet starred as the young
Iris Murdoch in the
Richard Eyre production of Iris, garnering Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award® nominations for the role. She next starred in Michael Apted's Enigma, a spy drama about code breakers during WWII, and The Life of
David Gale. Winslet dyed her hair blue and orange for her portrayal of the quirky Clementine in 2004's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, for which she received Academy Award®, Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA nominations for Best Actress. She then went on to star in Finding Neverland, which was named the Best Film of 2004 by the National Board of Review.
In 2006, Winslet was seen in Steven Zaillian's All the King's Men, voiced the character of Rita in the animated feature Flushed Away and finished the year with the romantic comedy The Holiday. Winslet earned a fifth Academy Award® nomination for her starring role in
Todd Field's Little Children.
In 2010, Winslet played the title role in HBO's award-winning five-part miniseries Mildred Pierce, for which she won Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG awards for Best Actress. She joined the ensemble cast of
Steven Soderbergh's Contagion and starred in
Roman Polanski's Carnage, which premiered in competition at the 2011 Venice Film Festival.
Most recently, Winslet starred in
Jason Reitman's Labor Day; in the film adaptations of Veronica Roth's popular young-adult novels Divergent (2014), directed by Neil Burger, and Insurgent (2015), directed by Robert Schwentke; and in A Little Chaos, from director
Alan Rickman. Next, Winslet will star in Jocelyn Moorhouse's The Dressmaker, and in
John Hillcoat's Triple Nine.
For her work in the arts, Winslet was awarded the CBE of the Order of the British Empire, which she received from Queen Elizabeth II at a Buckingham Palace ceremony.
