FROZEN, CATCHING FIRE Set Thanksgiving Box Office Records

According to Boxofficemojo.com, Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Disney's Frozen broke a slew of box office records over the Thanksgiving Weekend and together, earned $200 million for the five-day time period.

For the three-day weekend, Catching Fire remained in first place with $74.5 million. Among all second weekends, it now ranks fourth behind The Avengers, Avatar and The Dark Knight. The Hunger Games sequel also broke the five-day Thanksgiving weekend record held for the past 12 years by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($82.4 million).

Thus far in its 10 days in theaters, the film has earned $296.5 million, which basically guarantees to bring in over $400 million, whyich will top the film's first installment which earned $408 million total.

Opening in 3,742 locations across the country, Frozen opened to $66.7 million over the three-day weekend, making it the second-highest weekend ever for a movie opening out of first place. For the five-day period, the Disney animated picture earned an estimated $93 million, a new record for a Thanksgiving opening ahead of Toy Story 2 ($80.1 million). The film now surpasses 2010's Tangled, which took in $68.7 million over the same five-day period.

Despite some new competition opening late in December, Frozen is expected to remain the first choice for family audiences during the holiday period.

Walt Disney Pictures' FROZEN features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Santino Fontana and Alan Tudyk and original songs from Tony winner Robert Lopez ("The Book of Mormon," "Avenue Q") and Kristen Anderson-Lopez ("In Transit," "Winnie the Pooh"), and an original score by Christophe Beck ("The Muppets," Oscar-winning short "Paperman").

In the big-screen comedy adventure FROZEN, fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an Epic journey--teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven--to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

Disney's THOR: THE DARK WORLD took in an additional $11.1 million, bumping its total to $186.7 million, while Universal's THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY grossed another $8.4 million, raising its cumulative domestic total to $63.4 million. Open Road's HOMEFRONT, with Jason Statham and James Franco, debuted this weekend to a meager $6.9 million.
