Theatre Nuvo and The T.R.U.T.H. Project Inc. have teamed up to present a thought provoking night of social justice theatre and a panel discussion.

Defining Value: Black Men Matter is the 1st part of a 3 part series titled "Our Lives Matter" hosted by The T.R.U.T.H. Project Inc. Our goal during Black Men Matter is to define the values of Black Men and align with a higher sense of recognizing and embracing both individual and community value.

Introducing a stage reading of Bryan-Keyth Wilson's Choeopeom, For Colored Boyz on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown when freedoom ain't enuff. Followed by a panel/community discussion facilitated by Jordan Sneed.

For Colored Boyz... is written by Houston based playwright/ theatre journalist Bryan-Keyth Wilson.

Play Synopsis:

On Saturday, August 9, 2014 life for many black people changed. Michael Brown was unarmed and gunned down by a police officer. Ferguson, Missouri was a city under scrutiny from their treatment of black people and these events were the catalyst that changed people as well as America. For Colored Boyz... was birthed out of frustration, self-examination and reflection through the eyes of a black man. These stories are historical, personally visceral and written to examine the psyche of black men in America. Composed of poetic monologues, visual media and choreography this juxtaposed piece lends its form and composition to Ntozake Shange's debut choreopoem for colored girls...

We pay homage to the black male experience as well as the groundbreaking choreopoem penned by Shange. In 1975 Shange revolutionized the theatre world coining the term choreopoem. It was for colored girls... that opened the doors to the spoken word moment as well as plays such as The Vigina Monologues and The Colored Museum.

The cast includes: Caleb Fields, Cantrell Williams, Xavier Clay, Abraham Greatson and Phillip Brown.

Directed by Bryan-Keyth Wilson and Isabelle Dom.
