Does your dog have what it takes to be "Top Dog" of the 2014 Bark in the Park Top Dog Festival presented by Purina and Harris Teeter? Here's your chance to find out. Entries for the annual photo contest will be accepted March 3-24, 2014 at http://www.parkandrec.com.

To enter, click on the "Bark in the Park" banner and complete the Top Dog Photo Contest entry form. Entries are $15. This year's application includes an essay question that asks you to describe what makes your dog the "Top Dog." Essays are limited to 250 words.

Upon submission of the entry, a staff member from the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department will contact the applicant to process the entry fee payment. Entries received without the processed entry fee will not be considered. Limit one entry per dog. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation staff and Bark in the Park event sponsors are not eligible for the contest.

All entries will be judged by an independent panel based on the following criteria: cleverness, originality and the written essay. Three finalists will be selected for online voting at http://www.parkandrec.com. The public will be able to vote for the Top Dog April 7- 21, 2014. The Top Dog winner will be announced at Bark in the Park and will receive a year's supply of dog food from Purina.

This 2014 Bark in the Park Top Dog Festival will take place Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., at Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, Huntersville, N.C. The festival will include contests for dogs, musical performances, vendors and much more!

"Harris Teeter and Purina look forward to another successful Bark in the Park Festival," said Danna Jones, communication specialist for Harris Teeter. "Bark in the Park is a fun family event, and the proceeds fund the construction and maintenance of dog parks throughout Mecklenburg County, benefiting both dogs and the people they own."
