Emalie Savoy Joins NY Philharmonic's Presentation of Falla's ATLANTIDA, Now thru 6/2

Soprano Emalie Savoy will join the New York Philharmonic's performance of selections from Falla's Atlantida, led by Spanish conductor Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, tonight, May 31, 2012, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, at 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 2, at 8:00 p.m. The program also includes Orff's Carmina burana. As previously announced, the singers that Mr. Fru?hbeck has assembled for these performances also include American soprano Erin Morley, American tenor Nicholas Phan (in his Philharmonic debut), South- African baritone Jacques Imbrailo (debut), the Spanish chorus Orpheon Pamplones directed by Igor Ijurra Fernandez, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus directed by Dianne Berkun.

Soprano Emalie Savoy made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Kristina in Janacek's The Makropolus Case in April 2012. She was named the recipient of the 2012 Hildegard Behrens Foundation Award for promising young classical artists. She most recently portrayed the title role in Gluck's Armide to great acclaim in a co-production of The Met and The Juilliard School, led by Jane Glover in February 2012.

Savoy received the 2011 George London Foundation Grand Prize in memory of Leonie Rysanek and made her New York Philharmonic debut in the June 2011 production of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen, led by Alan Gilbert. She performed the title role in Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos, led by Christoph von Dohna?nyi at the 2010 Tanglewood Music Center, and appeared as Socrate in Satie's Socrate, led by James Levine with the Met Chamber Ensemble at Zankel Hall in October 2010. In December 2011 she was the featured soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah, led by Kent Tritle, with the Oratorio Society of New York in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium. Her previous Oratorio Society engagements have included soprano soloist in Mendelssohn's oratorios Paulus and Elijah. She was also featured in collaboration with dancer Damian Woetzel, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and members of the Silk Road Ensemble as part of the 2010 World Science Festival.

Savoy's operatic highlights have included the roles of the Countess in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro; the First Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute; Giulietta in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann; Anne Sexton in Susa's Transformations; and Madame Lidoine in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carme?lites. A graduate of The Juilliard School, she is currently a member of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera.

Tickets for these concerts start at $45. Tickets for Open Rehearsals are $18. The Box Office opens at 10:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and at noon on Sunday. On performance evenings, the Box Office closes one-half hour after performance time; other evenings it closes at 6:00 p.m. A limited number of $12.50 tickets for select concerts may be available through the Internet for students within 10 days of the performance, or in person the day of.
