Easter Seals Hawaii to Mark 70th Anniversary with TV Broadcast

Honolulu -- Easter Seals Hawaii announced today the broadcast of a very special documentary film called "Easter Seals Hawaii: Serving Hawaii's Families for 70 Years." The film will be broadcast on K5 on June 24th from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. and tells the story of the diversity of families and the vast array of needs served by the organization.

Historical highlights and personal reflections span decades. They include stories from community supporters like Don Robbs, Danny Kaleikini, Ed Sultan and others. This is a biopic about one of the greatest community service organizations in Hawaii and the most compelling are the real-world glimpses into the daily lives of children and their families, Hawaii families who found themselves at childbirth, unexpectedly stepping into the world of special needs.

Narrated by Danny Kaleikini, the 70th Anniversary TV Special is produced by Filmworks Pacific and written by Marc Cohen & Edgy Lee. The documentary film takes you into a unique and different world, a reality that redefines "`Ohana" to include not only family members and close friends, but dedicated staff and the many volunteers whose every day jobs are to provide life-enhancing services to people with disabilities and special needs so they may achieve independent, fulfilling lives.

Easter Seals Hawaii is a statewide organization that serves more than 2,000 individuals each year with disabilities or special needs, which include children and adults living with disabilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spina Bifida, Cognitive Impairments, and Downs Syndrome. With more than 450 employees statewide, Easter Seals Hawaii provides exceptional services, programs, education and outreach in the areas of speech, physical and occupational therapy, care coordination, one-on-one home support services, employment support, social/recreational programs and more.

Easter Seals Hawaii offers seven programs at fourteen locations that provide a range of services on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, L?na'i and Hawai'i Island. Easter Seals Hawaii is the state's largest provider of free Early Intervention services for infants and toddlers 0 to 3 years old, and is one of the state's largest providers of Medicaid Waiver services for adults with disabilities.

This year marks Easter Seals Hawaii's 70th Anniversary of providing programs and services for individuals with disabilities and special needs, and resources and support for their families. Its mission is to provide exceptional, individualized, family-centered services to empower people with disabilities or special needs to achieve their goals and live independent, fulfilling lives.

For its 70th Anniversary, Easter Seals Hawaii teamed up with Chef Alan Wong and ten other notable Pacific Rim Chefs, showcasing their culinary talents in a gala celebration on April 29 held at the Hawaii State Art Museum. The Easter Seals Hawaii 70th Anniversary Gala was the highlight of a year of activities intended to raise awareness and critical financial support for Easter Seals Hawaii programs and services.
