"En Avant! An Evening with Tennessee Williams," written and performed by Mr. William Shuman, returns to Stage 72 at the Triad Theater for an August and September run.

Mr. William Shuman inhabits Tennessee Williams, body and soul from the time he comes onstage. Tennessee Williams' story, behind his writings, is a mesmerizing one you just cannot miss!

How fortunate a theatergoer is to have seen the great plays of classic playwright Tennessee Williams. "The Glass Menagerie", "The Night of the Iguana", "The Rose Tattoo" all come to mind. We, as playgoers, are now all the more the lucky to be able to witness what may have gone on behind the plays, and what had gone into many scenes written. In "En Avant", Mr. William Shuman achieves this with his tribute to Mr. Williams as a man and creative, yet tortured, soul.

As Mr. Shuman tells it: "Tennessee Williams has intrigued and inspired me from the moment I opened a copy of The Glass Menagerie in preparation for my initial foray into the world of the theater. I began to wonder what it was that made this writer so different from the other great writers I had read or seen. I looked at his photos and was instantly struck by his infectious grin and the unmistakable twinkle in his eye. As I learned more I couldn't help but be humbled by the shy, almost diffident persona which shunned celebrity and all that that false god represented. But mostly, I am truly moved by the poetry in his dialogue, poetry which serves to differentiate him from all the other great playwrights of the 20th century....I've created "En Avant! An Evening with Tennessee Williams" in an attempt to present the essence of this admittedly wounded man. In it I strive to illuminate the forces that shaped his life and defined his art. The play delves into his early childhood, examines his family dynamic and in a series of very personal reflections presents the struggles that eventually led him to the pantheon of the dramatic world."

"En Avant", meaning "Onward", or "Forward" from the French, was how Mr. Williams signed his correspondence and it became a motto throughout his life. The play moves throughout Williams' life and times, with a winning performance (receiving the "FRINGE NY 2013 Overall excellence award for solo performance in the Theater), that Mr. Shuman has given several times in New York and throughout the US. The 75-minute one-man show is now coming back to New York in August, 2014 and you will now have the chance to witness it for yourself.
