EDINBURGH 2016: BWW Q&A - Adam Hess

BWW speaks to Adam Hess about his 2016 Edinburgh Fringe show Feathers.

After a sell out debut and a nominations for the Fosters Best Newcomer award, are you feeling the pressure?

Kind of but only because my landlady keeps googling me and makes me feel awful about my shortcomings. When I didn't win Best Newcomer last year she sent me an email asking me how I felt about 'losing the Edinburgh fringe competition'. She's a very horrible woman and keeps dropping hints that she's my biological mother. It's the sort of stress I could really do without.

Do you think you know what to expect from the Fringe second time around?

I know not to go to a nightclub with your back pocket filled with flyers because they'll all fall out without you knowing and cover the dance floor. Then a barman will come up to you and say, 'Are you Adam Hess?' and when you cockily say, 'Well, yes, I am,' he will then say, 'Well, can you pick all of your flyers off the floor?' However, people will be dancing and kneeing you in the face while you're trying to do it and it will be awful and seeing as your fingernails were really short last year it will be almost impossible to pick any of them up.

Tell us a bit about Feathers.

It's funnier than last year's show. There's stuff in it about me being brought up Catholic and then stopping after an argument I had in Rome with a chap dressed like a puppet or something and some stuff about me getting stranded on a fishing boat alone on the Thames when I was 17 wearing a leotard.

Who would you recommend your show to?

Apparently my shows only appeal to people who have exceptionally high IQs and a great sense of humour and even better love-making skills, so if it doesn't appeal to you, don't worry but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

What sets Feathers apart from other comedy shows at the Fringe?

You will leave the room dumber than when you walked in.
