Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional theatre in residence at Oakes Center in Summit, is hosting the first event presented by Creative Summit, a new collective of artists who live, work and create in Summit. Tonight, April 22 at 7:30 pm, the community is invited to gather for a free Improv/Drum Circle Workshop at the Oakes Center, 120 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ.

Facilitated by Laura Ekstrand, Artistic Director of Dreamcatcher and Ellen de Havilland, Music Therapist and HealthRhythms Facilitator and Owner of The Music Moment, this evening is an opportunity to explore and express the creativity that is at the center of every person. The evening will begin with group improvisation games that will encourage listening and responding and freeing the imagination. Next, a facilitated drum circle will blend sounds and rhythms that spontaneously arise from the group.

Creative Summit is a new organization that seeks to unite the artistic community in the area while encouraging the larger community to participate in their own creativity. It strives to explore how the arts can enrich the lives of Summit residents and how local artists can connect, collaborate and create together.

No experience is needed for this workshop, just a willingness to have some fun and be yourself. All supplies are provided, but if you have your own drum, feel free to bring it along. No reservations are necessary, and all adults are welcome. For more information, send an email to summitarts2014@gmail.com.

The Improv/Drum Circle Workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 pm at Oakes Center, located at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit. Parking is available in the lot behind the theatre at 20 Ashwood Avenue and at the Summit Recreation Center, 100 Morris Avenue. The facility is wheelchair accessible. About Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre - Dreamcatcher was founded in 1994 as a non-profit professional ensemble of actors, a subset of whom perform in every production. The mission of our ensemble is to build community with the audience by sharing life-affirming stories in an intimate environment. We seek to expose theatregoers to ideas and lives like and unlike their own, to awaken their imaginations and create empathy for others. The company focuses on deepening the experience of our patrons by supplementing the performances with personal contact through receptions, talkbacks and interactive programs.

Dreamcatcher's core company of professional local actors performs contemporary work that entertains and challenges, and has at its heart a belief in the essential goodness of people. The company's activities include mainstage productions, improv comedy and cabarets, new play readings and a variety of educational and senior outreach programs.

Dreamcatcher's programs are funded by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts; the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation; Dramatist Guild Fund; The Summit Area Public Foundation; the Manley-Winser Foundation; and many other corporations, foundations and individuals. Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre is an Equity Producing Theatre member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.
