Dramatists Guild of America Awards Nottage & Others With Lifetime Achievement 11/1

The Dramatists Guild of America is pleased to announce the recipients of their annual awards, which will be distributed at an awards ceremony Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Hudson Theater in New York.

This year's awards go to Lynn Nottage, recipient of the 2009 Hull-Warriner Award, for her play Ruined; John Kander, recipient of the Frederick Loewe Award for Dramatic Composition, for his score to The Scottsboro Boys; Michael Weller, recipient of the Flora Roberts Award; and Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick and Terrence McNally, recipients of the Dramatists Guild Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Hull-Warriner Award is the only award given by dramatists to dramatists; it is presented annually by the Dramatists Guild Council to an author or team of authors in recognition of their play dealing with controversial subjects involving the fields of political, religious or social mores of the times. Previous winners include David Ives, Tracy Letts, Steven Sater & Duncan Sheik, Marsha Norman, and Dael Orlandersmith. The 2009 finalists were The Brother/Sister Plays by Tarell Alvin McCraney; Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker; Looking for the Pony by Andrea Lepcio; and The Orphans' Home Cycle by Horton Foote.

The Frederick Loewe Award, given by the Frederick Loewe Foundation and presented annually by the Dramatists Guild Council to a composer recognizing achievement in a theatrical score presented in New York during the previous theatrical season. Past winners include Tom Kitt, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Scott Frankel.

The Flora Roberts Award, administered by the Dramatists Guild Fund, is presented to a theater professional in recognition of distinguished work in the theater and to encourage the continuation of that work. Previous recipients include Polly Pen, Craig Lucas, Ed Bullins, Adrienne Kennedy and Tina Howe.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented by the Dramatists Guild Council in recognition of lifetime achievement in theatrical writing. Previous recipients include Lanford Wilson, Joe Stein, Horton Foote, August Wilson, Edward Albee and Arthur Miller.

Tickets for the Awards Night on Monday, November 1, are $100 per person. The evening will begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 7pm. There will also be a special video screening of highlights from the Dramatists Guild Fund's "Legacy Project: Dramatists Talk About Their Work."
