On Thursday, September 30, 2010, District Attorney Charles J. Hynes honored Chairman of the Board of Directors of Children of the City Rocco Basile for his community service in the Bay Ridge and Sunset Park communities, and his tireless efforts in supporting the work of Children of the City. He was also recognized for his positive example of one that can make a great come around when given a second chance.

For the last decade, Rocco has been spending more and more time with his favorite charities. In addition to his work at Children of the City, he has worked closely with his alma mater Xaverian High School raising money for scholarships and has previously worked with organizations against Domestic violence. In addition Basile has supported local homeless ministries and food pantries.

"This Benefit was a tremendous opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of our Chairman of the Board, Rocco Basile. He really cares about children and families, and is a true hero" said Joyce Mattera, the dynamic Founder and President of Brooklyn-based Children of the City. Tony and Emmy Award winning actor and producer Hugh Jackman was in attendance at the Benefit hosted by WABC Features & Lifestyle reporter Lauren Glassberg. Also in attendance was Miss U.S.A. 2010 Rima Fakih, and recently retired New York Giants wide receiver David Tyree. Guests gathered at Pier Sixty to honor Rocco Basile and help raise awareness of the educational needs and social challenges of underprivileged children in Brooklyn communities.
