Writer and performer Alexandra Laplante workshops her indelicate new play, Unconventionally Intimate, at the Music Hall at the Dramatist Guild Fund on Tuesday, May 30th at 7:30pm.

Documenting her real life experiences navigating the complex and delightfully awkward world of contemporary dating, Unconventionally Intimate is LaPlante's humorous, fascinating and sexy look at what is possible... if you throw traditional expectations out the window.

"Alex didn't ask me to direct her play, I practically begged her for the job, because her story is one that is in desperate need of telling," said Director Brooke M. Haney. "And the Music Hall is the perfect venue for its first telling," she continued, "because it has the feel of a living room, and we want you to feel like we are inviting you into our home, for something that may make you a bit uncomfortable, but will leave you questioning 'do I really know what I need in a relationship, and how might I feel if I were raised differently?' Or at least that's what I asked myself when I first read it, and that was fascinating." "I've been storytelling in bars and living rooms for years," said Playwright/Performer LaPlante. "People hear about my life. Some want it, some are afraid of it, and some are tantalized by it--but there's always a reaction. Friends kept telling me to blog, but I want to tell these stories, hear the reactions of strangers. To be honest and vulnerable in a way that scares and excites me."

The duo is very grateful to the Dramatist Guild Fund's dedication to fostering new work. They intend to further develop the show this Summer.
