DV8 and The National Theatre present JOHN, conceived and directed by Lloyd Newson. Creative Associate is Hannes Langolf with set design by Anna Fleischle, lighting by Richard Godin and sound design by Gareth Fry. The show runs Thursday 30 October to Tuesday 13 January 2015, with an opening set for 4 November at 7PM.

Following the worldwide success of Can We Talk About This?, DV8 return to the National's Lyttelton stage with JOHN, a new verbatim dance-theatre work by Lloyd Newson, Artistic Director of DV8.

JOHN will open to press at the National Theatre in November but is also embarking on a UK and European tour which includes travelling to Vienna, Lyon, Budapest, Athens, Liverpool, Brighton, Coventry, Barcelona, Salford and Blackpool with more dates to be announced shortly.

Director and creator Lloyd Newson interviewed more than 50 men asking frank questions, initially about love and sex. One of those men was John.

What emerged was a story that is both extraordinary and touching. Years of crime, drug use and struggling to survive lead John on a search in which his life converges with others in an unexpected place, unknown by most. JOHN authentically depicts real-life stories, combining movement and spoken word.

DV8 Physical Theatre's previously visited the the National with Can We Talk About This?, To Be Straight With You and Just For Show. DV8 has made 18 works and won many awards since their inception in 1986, including a Grand Prix de Danse, an international Emmy for Performing Arts, a Rose d'Or, three Prix Italia and a Helpmann Award for Best New Dance Work

The performers are Taylor Benjamin, Lee Boggess, Gabriel Castillo, Ian Garside, Ermira Goro, Garth Johnson, Hannes Langolf, Vivien Wood and Andi Xhuma.

JOHN is co-produced by the National Theatre, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, Theatre de la Ville, and Festival d'Automne, Paris, Dansens Hus Stockholm, Dansens Hus Oslo and DV8 Physical Theatre.
