Country Music Parody The Doyle & Debbie Show to Debut at the New Century Theatre, 2/22-3/30

The Doyle & Debbie Show, the spot-on, critically acclaimed country music parody that simultaneously lampoons and pays homage to the genre's tradition of iconic duos, makes its Minneapolis debut February 22-March 30, 2014 at Hennepin Theatre Trust's New Century Theatre. Created by veteran Country Music Television writer Bruce Arntson, The Doyle & Debbie Show is a clever tribute inspired by the stories, banter and music of famous pairs like Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and June Carter, and Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. The production is a freewheeling joyride with a wickedly funny script and sidesplitting original songs like "Whine Whine Twang Twang," "Stock Car Love" and "Blue Stretch Pants." Doyle Mayfield, an old-guard country star with a handful of hits back in the 70s and 80s, is reviving his career 30 years, four wives and three 'Debbies' later. The new Debbie, a single mother with three children, sees this quasi-lovable lothario as her last chance to make it big in Nashville; until she realizes that hitching her star to this loose cannon is not all that she hoped it would be. Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune wrote, "Brilliant. The last time I laughed anywhere close to this hard was at The Book of Mormon."

The Doyle & Debbie Show stars the vocal and acting talent of Minnesota native David Andrew Anderson as Doyle and Minneapolis actress Kim Kivens as Debbie. Anderson played George Jones in Stand By Your Man and Hank Williams in Hank Williams: Lost Highway and has performed in regional theaters in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and has also worked at the Guthrie Theater and Theater Latté Da. Kivens has appeared in Theater Latté Da's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Minneapolis Musical Theatre's production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

"My experience writing for Country Music Television's Inside Fame, along with frequent backstage visits to The Grand Ol' Opry, became the basis for Doyle & Debbie," says Arntson. "It's my impulse to make fun of everything-and it comes naturally for me to satirize the country music scene, but I do it with respect for the people and especially the music. I've been honored to have many former Opry stars and musicians, including George Jones, and current Country stars, see Doyle & Debbie."

The Doyle & Debbie Show is directed by Cathryn "Bula" Bulicek, who was the assistant director of the Denver Center Attractions engagement of The Doyle & Debbie Show, with set design by Erica Zaffarano and costume design by Lynn Farrington.

Tickets for The Doyle & Debbie Show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 and range from $16 to 34 depending on performance dates.
