Coming Up This Week in Theatre - 12/14/2013Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts Presents Concert for Typhoon Relief - 12/14/2013

In response to the devastation caused in the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan earlier this month, which has left 1.9 million homeless and more than 600,000 people displaced, the Academy of Vocal Arts has joined forces with the First Presbyterian Church to co-present two evenings of arias that will benefit victims of the storm.


Coming Up This Week in Theatre - 12/14/2013Lewis & Callaway to Star in YES, VIRGINIA World Premiere Concert, 12/14 - 12/14/2013

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra will perform the world concert premiere of Macy's Yes, Virginia in Concert at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, at Music Hall. The family-friendly performance is developed and presented by Macy's and will feature John Morris Russell conducting the Pops along with singers and actors in a semi-staged adaptation under the stage direction of Patrick Boyd. Headlining the cast for the world concert premiere are Broadway veterans Liz Callaway, performing the role of Miriam, and Norm Lewis, as Mr. Church. The role of eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon will be performed by Gracie Alexander. This will be the world premiere performance of the fully orchestrated concert version of the musical with book and lyrics by William Schermerhorn and music by Wesley Whatley. "Yes, Virginia The Musical" was created by Macy's in 2012 as part of its annual holiday Believe campaign.


Coming Up This Week in Theatre - 12/14/2013The Met: Live in HD Presents FALSTAFF - 12/14/2013

The Met: Live in HD series continues on the big screen with Verdi's Falstaff. An undisputed master of this work, Music Director James Levine conducts Verdi's opera for the first time at the Met since 2005. Robert Carsen's production-the first new Met Falstaff since 1964-is set in the English countryside in the mid-20th century. Ambrogio Maestri sings the title role of the blustery Sir John Falstaff, opposite a marvelous ensemble that includes Angela Meade, Stephanie Blythe, LisetteOropesa and Franco Vassallo. The live transmission begins on December 14 at 12:55 PM ET with an encore on December 18 at 6:30 PM local time.


Coming Up This Week in Theatre - 12/14/2013MCC Theater Closes SMALL ENGINE REPAIR - 12/15/2013

MCC Theater announced today that the New York Premiere of John Pollono's celebrated Small Engine Repair will now play through December 15, 2013 due to popular demand. Keegan Allen, James Badge Dale, playwright/actor John Pollono, and James Ransone star in the production directed by longtime MCC collaborator Jo Bonney (MCC's The Break of Noon, Fat Pig). Small Engine Repair at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) has its official opening night on November 20, 2013 and was previously scheduled to run through December 8, 2013.
