Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, will host its annual fundraising Gala 3 p.m., Sunday, August 10 in the Mainstage Theatre at CCBC Essex, 7201 Rossville Blvd.

This year the oldest Summer Theatre in Maryland, Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, will pay tribute to Stephen Sondheim with There's Always a Woman - according to Stephen Sondheim. As Broadway's greatest living composer/lyricist, Sondheim has created some of the theater's most celebrated and memorable female characters, who, in turn, have been played by many of our greatest actresses. The music from his more than fifty year career defines many Broadway hits-- Do I hear a Waltz?, Gypsy, Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, and Into the Woods, to name only a few.

The Cockpit Gala features singer/actress Carolyn Black-Sotir, described as "the ultimate Sondheim Interpreter," who along with pianist Timothy McReynolds, and bassist Tom Williams, will explore the many facets of the Sondheim woman from Mayoress Cora in Anyone Can Whistle, to Johanna in Sweeney Todd, to Passion's Fosca. Black-Sotir shares her insight into the lyricist/composer's creative process based on her own personal interviews with Stephen Sondheim. For information about Carolyn Black-Sotir, visit her website at http://www.carolynblacksotir.com/

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (60+) and $15 for children aged 12 and younger. For additional information or to order tickets, call the Box Office 443-840-ARTS (2787) or visit http://www.ccbcmd.edu/cockpit/shows.html.
