ClancyWorks, Zeta and More Set for Green Space's TAKE ROOT & FERTILE GROUND, 4/26-27

Green Space is pleased to offer a diverse roster of new and emerging artists in April. Fertile Ground will present new work by various artists and Take Root will present an evening of work by ClancyWorks Dance Company and Zeta Dance Group.

TAKE ROOT, now in its 5th season, aids in the continued development and performance of new dance work of various aesthetics by providing choreographers with the opportunity to be produced in a full-length or paired evening of work. This once a month series supports dance makers by providing the venue, Green Space, with full technical and marketing support. Take Root will run April 26, 2014 at 8:00pm. Admission is $15. ClancyWorks Dance Company presents two works choreographed by Adrienne Clancy. Driven [by the female heartbeat] is a recent work, which received recognition as a Metro DC Dance award finalist for Outstanding New Work. This piece examines the many roles that women must take on as they live in the 21st century. Benchmarks is an audience favorite that celebrates the value of daily interactions and challenges by bringing the audience on a choreographic journey. Benches are continuously redesigned in different formations to refresh the stage visually and create new landscapes where various dramatic situations can unfold.

The Herd is a U.S. premiere for Australian company, Zeta Dance Group. This intricate and innovative work choreographed by Erin Tunbridge explores human tendencies to follow those in power and investigates individuality, curiosity and social trends as it relates to conformity. In a stimulating and thought-provoking display of artistry, this ground-breaking work compels the audience to consider: Why do we follow the trends of others? What happens when there is no trend to follow? What would you begin?

Adrienne Clancy, the Founding and Artistic Director of ClancyWorks Dance Company, is a dance artist. Her work explores architecturally informed partnering developed among diverse artists. Simultaneously dynamic and emotionally perspective, Clancy's choreography exemplifies an environment of mutual respect and creates images that embrace diversity and foster community awareness. Over the past twenty years Clancy has choreographed and performed throughout the world including being the youngest choreographer to present at the Suzanne Dellal International World Dance Competition in Tel Aviv. Her choreography has been performed internationally in Colombia, England, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Paraguay, and Poland. Prior to directing ClancyWorks, Adrienne Clancy was a member of the Bella Lewitzky Dance Company; a rehearsal director, project director, and company member for the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange; a principal dancer for Nora Reynolds Dance (Nora is Bella Lewitzky's daughter); and a guest artist for Bill Evans and Victoria Marks. Clancy will earn a PhD in May 2014, and recently completed her MFA in Dance from Texas Woman's University. Clancy holds a BFA in Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University and a MA in Dance, emphasis in History & Criticism, from University of New Mexico.

Erin Tunbridge has been working in dance choreography, teaching, and arts management since 2008 having established and directed Zeta Dance Group, a dance collective in Australia, for 4 years during which she choreographed and self-produced 4 full length works at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts. Erin studied at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia, where she received a Bachelor of Creative Industries in Dance (2009); Bachelor of Education, Secondary (2009) - minor in English; Graduate Certificate in Creative Industries (2010), and Master of Creative Industries in Arts Management and Production (2012). Since 2006, Erin has taught dance for early childhood, elementary, middle and high schools, private dance studios, colleges and universities (including Montgomery College and George Mason University) and adult community classes (including Dance Place, DC). Erin currently works as the Programs Coordinator for ClancyWorks Dance Company.

FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 8th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five-six choreographers each evening, and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green. Fertile Ground will run April 27, 2014 at 7pm. Admission is $10. Tickets are available at the door or online at www.GreenSpaceStudio.org.

Fertile Ground will feature Erin Tunbridge, Stormy Budwig, Claire Johannes, Suiso Ogawa Company, and MarDelDance.

Dance Entropy Inc. created its company home base, Green Space, in Long Island City, in November 2005. Green Space is a spacious 2000 sq. foot venue housed in a former silk factory with magnificent views overlooking Manhattan. Green Space offers choreographers, dancers and the local community an affordable professional dance rehearsal, class, and performance space in New York City.
