Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and Executive Producer James A. Blackman, III proudly present the Broadway family musical SEUSSICAL, based on the works of Dr. Seuss with book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty. Opening with previews December 2, 3, and 4 with the Gala Press Opening night on Saturday, December 5 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. This is the final show in the 2009 Season for the Civic Light Opera.

The production will be directed by CLO's Artistic Director Stephanie A. Coltrin, with Gary Busby as Musical Director and Heather Castillo as Choreographer. The Dr. Seuss character cast includes: Harrison White as The cat in the Hat, Sam Zeller as Horton the Elephant, Annie Ramsey as Gertrude McFuzz, Paula Chimene Jiles as Sour Kangaroo,
Jessica Gisin as Mayzie LaBird, Gary Lee Reed as General Schmitz, Jason Wenn as Mayor Who, Janet Clark as Mrs. Who, John Lindahl & LJ Benet alternating as as JoJo and Sophia Viggiano & Kyrsti Chavez alternating as Baby Roo.

One of the most performed shows in America, SEUSSICAL is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, making it the perfect Holiday treat for the entire family! Tony winning authors Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on this Island) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination-Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge--not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a story that makes you laugh and cry.

SEUSSICAL opened on Broadway November 1, 2000 and ran for a total of 198 performances. This is the 4th and Final show of the 2009 Civic Light Opera Season. Season 2010 opens in February with Bark! The Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, BEEHIVE! and next December The 1940's Radio Hour!

In the past ten years CLOSBC has received the most (4) Best Musical Awards from the OVATIONS. Performances are presented at the 1,445 seat Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Redondo Beach, California 90278. The Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center is located on the Northeast corner of Aviation and Manhattan Beach Boulevards.
