Cirque du Soleil announced today that the soundtrack to KURIOS -- Cabinet of Curiosities -- the latest Big Top spectacle from Cirque du Soleil -- will be available on CD and digital release beginning Tuesday, December 9.

The music for KURIOS, composed by Raphaël Beau and Bob & Bill, represents a thrilling new sound for the company. In line with the show's theme of time travel, the music of KURIOS compels listeners to imagine musicians from jazz's peak era performing alongside contemporary DJs. The blending of vintage and modern styles in the music (a theme that extends to all facets of the show) serves to present jazz and swing in a way that has universal appeal. The intriguing songs complement the show's mission, which is to blur the lines of fantasy and reality, immersing the viewer in a mysterious and fascinating realm that disorients the senses and challenges perceptions.

San Francisco audiences will have the first opportunity to purchase the CD version of the soundtrack when the show makes its U.S. premiere on November 14, 2014. In keeping with the theme of juxtaposing modern and vintage eras, a limited-edition vinyl version of KURIOS, featuring completely original artwork, will be released at a later date this year. This special vinyl version will be made available exclusively at performances of KURIOS.

The soundtrack for KURIOS is available now for pre-order on Amazon music. On December 10, KURIOS will hold an official CD launch party under the Big Top in San Francisco. Festivities include a live performance by the Clown Voodoo Band and a cocktail reception prior to the 8 p.m. performance. Tickets for KURIOS -- Cabinet of Curiosities are available now by visiting cirquedusoleil.com/kurios or calling 1-800-450-1480.

One key to the successful fusion of sounds on the KURIOS album is the unique chemistry between co-producers Rob Heaney and Alain Vinet. Each co-producer brings a different sound to the table; Vinet comes from the electronic/DJ world, while Heaney comes from a more organic musical environment. Together, they were able to seamlessly blend two different eras of sound into one.

Inspired by electro-swing, jazz and the sounds of the Big Band Era, KURIOS represents an entirely fresh take on these beloved musical genres. "Inverted World" starts off with a beautiful classical piano and string duo before diving into a 1920s influenced klezmer/banjo bluegrass mashup with hints of jazz legend Django Reinhardt. The soundtrack continues this classical/contemporary mix with the counterbalance of a piano solo with theremin on the song "Departure." Swing beats are placed front and center on the fast-paced "Say That Thing," "Go the We Bap" and "You Must Be Joking." All of these songs move the story of KURIOS forward, creating an intricate and rich sound that will resonate with music lovers everywhere.
