Richard van der Westhuizen and David Clatworthy in RESONANT

In honour of Heritage Day, RESONANT, written and produced by Ingrid Howard, will play at the Drostdy Theatre in Stellenbosch this September. The hour-long drama had its debut at Woordfees in Stellenbosch in 2013.

In RESONANT, the reward for honouring a 20-year-old promise brings an unexpected journey through time that ends in cultural understanding and reconciliation between two former enemies. A reflection on the purposelessness of war, RESONANT reflects on the link all humans share through identical emotions, instincts and desires. RESONANT delves in the aspects of being normal soldiers on both sides of the trenches. After senseless wars come peace, and this brings objective insight to all participants and onlookers, and Sir Ian Hamilton and Christiaan Barend Maree discover that they were merely replaceable pawns used by greater powers. An uninspected discovery, at the end of the play, underlines the golden thread that binds humankind together.

'The name RESONANT reflects a soundboard that an Englishman and Boer discover in each other, years after the Anglo Boer War," says playwright Howard, who has also handled the set design for the production.

RESONANT stars the well-known Richard van der Westhuizen as Christiaan Barend Maree and David Clatworthy as Sir Ian Hamilton. Van der Westhuizen has appeared on Kyknet in TERUG NA EGIPTE and wrote hit songs like "Ballade vir ? Enkeling" and "Tussen Treine", while Clatworthy starred in Deon Opperman's stage production ONS VIR JOU and can be seen in ERFSONDES and GETROUD MET RUBGY. Talented and popular pianist Lucas Heinen is the accompanist and pawn master. Sound and lighting are by Hano Smit

Famous actor and director Chris van Niekerk (TERUG NA EGIPTE, GOD VAN KLANK) has masterfully staged this wonderful play, which runs on 4-6 and 9-11 September at 20:15, with additional 16:00 shows on 5 and 6 September. Tickets cost R120 and can be booked at info@drostdyteater.co.za or by calling 087 943 2459.
