Carnegie Hall today announced that a duo performance by critically-acclaimed and award-winning pianists Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock has just been added to its 2014-2015 concert season. The performance-which will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage-will feature the two master musicians who share more than forty years of professional and personal history in a rare duet concert. For over half a century, Hancock and Corea have blazed their own paths of artistic innovation at the keyboard. From the great Miles Davis bands of the 1960s, and the genre-shattering Headhunters and Return to Forever bands of the 1970s, to the unparalleled, award-winning careers the artists have enjoyed since, Hancock and Corea are among the most important influences on jazz and beyond of our time.

In 1978, Columbia Records released the duo recording An Evening with Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea, and a live acoustic recording CoreaHancock followed the next year. Of their work together, Hancock once noted, ``When I listen back to some of the duet tracks we've made, half the time I can't tell who's Chick and who's me.' Corea adds, "There is a very deep bond between the two of us.'

Tickets for this performance are available now to Carnegie Hall 2014-2015 season subscribers. Tickets go on sale to the general public on August 25.

A Downbeat Hall of Famer and NEA Jazz Master, 20-time Grammy Award winner, and keyboard virtuoso, Chick Corea has attained living legend status after five decades of unparalleled creativity and an artistic output that is simply staggering. Corea is the fourth most-nominated artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, with 61 nominations. He has also earned three Latin Grammy Awards, the most of any artist in the Best Instrumental Album category. From straight ahead jazz to avant-garde, bebop to fusion, children's songs to chamber music, along with some far-reaching forays into symphonic works, Corea has touched an astonishing number of musical bases in his illustrious career while maintaining a standard of excellence that is awe-inspiring. A tirelessly creative spirit, he continues to forge ahead, continually reinventing himself in the process.

Herbie Hancock is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice. With an distinguished career spanning five decades and 14 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for River: The Joni Letters, he continues to amaze audiences across the globe. There are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B than Herbie Hancock. As the immortal Miles Davis said in his autobiography, "Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven't heard anybody yet who has come after him." Born in Chicago in 1940, Hancock was a child piano prodigy who performed a Mozart piano concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 11. He began playing jazz in high school, initially influenced by Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans. He also developed a passion for electronics and science, and double-majored in music and electrical engineering at Grinnell College.
