Bettie Page, Two Nearly Naked Christmas Carols, Sex Crimes & More Featured in COLLECTIVE:UNCONSCIOUS WINTER FESTIVAL December 1 -13 at Walkerspace

Collective: Unconscious will present the COLLECTIVE: UNCONSCIOUS WINTER FESTIVAL beginning December 1 at Walkerspace (46 Walker Street between Broadway & Church Streets in Tribeca). Tickets range from $15- $20, available at 866-811-4111 or www.CollectiveUnconsciousNYC.org.

The complete performance schedule is as follows:

December 1 - 12
SEX CRIMES CABARET
Are you a sex criminal? Performer L. Gabrielle Penabaz takes you on a sonic and visual adventure based on amazing but true sexual legislation past and present. Inspired by an article by Tristan Taormino about sex toy laws in Texas, Ms. Penabaz's extensive research into sex laws, taboos, and some firsthand reportage of sex workers' lives have been turned into a theatrical evening of anatomically correct facts and figures, songs and dances. New Orleans' Times-Picayune called the World Premiere production "a wild ride... enjoyable, stimulating, even thoughtful." The show also features live music played by members of The Kowalskis and DJ M!lk, VJing by Jeremy Halpern, back-up dancers Sarah Sparkles and Kai Altair, and a host of weird little films created by Penbaz starring a slew of New York's most talented burlesque and artist personalities. For more info visit www.SexCrimesCabaret.com. $20. Thu. - Sat. at 7:30pm with a special Sneak Preview on Dec. 1 at 8pm.

December 2 - 11:
THE VENERATION OF BETTIE PAGE
If there was a patron saint of burlesque, it might be Bettie Page (April 22, 1923 - December 11, 2008). Iconic both now and in her own era, this tribute explores the lasting influence of her enduring image and her amazing spirit. Created with the cooperation of the producers of the authorized Betty Page biographic film Bettie Page Reveals All, this is a celebration of all that "Bettie" has come to mean to modern audiences, and a life that was truly her own. $20. Dec. 2 & 9 at 10:00pm & Dec. 11 at 11:30pm.

December 2 - 13:
FILTHY LUCRE: A BURLESQUE CHRISTMAS CAROL
Charles Dickens' immortal classic is retold as only Pinchbottom can retell it -- with nudity! "A Christmas Carol is perhaps my absolute favorite piece of literature," said Pinchbottom co-producer Nasty Canasta, who will play the Scrooge. "But there has always been one thing missing from the classic tale... and that is, of course, sexy Victorian-era vixens lasciviously removing their knickers." According to Jonny Porkpie, who plays Marley's Ghost and is adapting the story for the burlesque stage, the Pinchbottom version will not stray far from the original text. "Other than making Scrooge a woman, the counting house to a strip club, and adding boobs every few minutes, the show will be completely faithful to Dickens," notes Porkpie. Named the "Best Burlesque in NY" by New York Magazine and called "The Best Burlesque Show in Town" by The Village Voice, Pinchbottom is the winner of the first-ever "Most Innovative" Award from The Burlesque Hall of Fame. For more information visit www.pinchbottom.com. $20. Thu.- Sat. at 10:00pm & Sun. at 7:00pm with a special Sneak Preview Wed. Dec. 2 at 8:00pm. (Note: Thurs. Dec 10 will be a special Hanukkah Edition

December 9:
NAKED GIRLS READING: A CHRISTMAS CAROL
The title pretty much says it all: ladies un-don their gay apparel to read aloud a version of A Christmas Carol abridged and originally performed by Dickens himself. NBC New York predicts the salon "will no doubt leave your chestnuts very warm indeed" and EntertainmentWeekly.com observes "While [A Christmas Carol] is easily one of the most frequently adapted stories of all time, I can almost guarantee that you've yet to see it done like this". Featuring Nasty Canasta and more. $15. 8:00pm.

The mission of COLLECTIVE: UNCONSCIOUS is to foster an inclusive, creative community in Lower Manhattan that serves as an incubator and launching pad for emerging artists. Founded in 1995 by a group of multi-disciplined artists, Collective: Unconscious was conceived both to perform unique experimental theater and to administer a space that would serve as a community resource and laboratory for the performing arts.
