According to Variety, CBS will not give Season 2 orders to its summer series BRAINDEAD and AMERICAN GOTHIC . The network announced news of the cancellations following the September finales of both shows.

BRAINDEAD starred Aaron Tveit (LES MISERABLES, NEXT TO NORMAL, GREASE LIVE), Tony Shalhoub (ACT ONE) and Nikki M. James (BOOK OF MORMON) and featured Megan Hilty and Beth Malone. The series premiered in June to over 4.5 million viewers for its first episode, but ratings soon declined as the season continued. It's final episode delivered just over 2 million viewers.

Well every cloud does have a silver lining - this now frees up these Broadway talents to return to the Great White Way in the near future!

The comic-thriller is set in the world of Washington, D.C. politics and follows Laurel, a young, fresh-faced Hill staffer who discovers two things: the government has stopped working, and bugs are eating the brains of Congress members and Hill staffers. The daughter of a Democratic political dynasty who left Washington, D.C. to become a documentary filmmaker, Laurel is pulled back into THE FAMILY business when her brother, Luke, the Democratic whip Senator from Maryland, needs her help running his Senate office. On the Hill, Laurel becomes unlikely friends with Gareth, the smart, hardworking Legislative Director to a top Republican, Senator Red Wheatus. As the tiny bugs continue to multiply, Laurel and her allies must work quickly to identify the other-worldly creatures, stop their infiltration and ultimately save the world.
