Producer Riki Kane Larimer (Fiddler on the Roof, Tappin' Thru Life, On The Town, Gigi)has announced the Off-Broadway transfer of The York Theatre Company's acclaimed production of the new musical, Cagney with book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music & lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame, First Wives Club). Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, last spring, where it played a limited five-week sold out engagement. This new updated, expanded and revised version will begin performances begin on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. for an open-ended engagement at The Westside Theatre - Upstairs (407 West 43rd Street). Opening Night is set for Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m.

Directed by Bill Castellino (Storyville, Jolson) and with choreography by Joshua Bergasse (The Nerds, On The Town, Gigi), the six-member cast stars Broadway veteran and hoofer Robert Creighton (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Anything Goes, The Lion King) as the legendary James Cagney, in this exciting new musical. He will be joined by his original Off-Broadway cast membersJeremy Benton (42nd Street), Danette Holden (Annie), Bruce Sabath (Company), Josh Walden (Ragtime), and Ellen Zolezzi(Seussical).

Cagney, a dramatic new musical, follows the life of the legendary James Cagney from the streets of New York to his rise from a vaudeville song-and-dance man to one of the brightest stars of Hollywood as the original tough guy. Broadway's Robert Creighton, in the role he was born to play, leads a cast of six who tap dance through a score that blends original music with classic George M. Cohan favorites: Give My Regards To Broadway, You're A Grand Old Flag, and Yankee Doodle Dandy.

The critics raved when Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, last spring, where it played a limited five-week sold out engagement. "Robert Creighton shines as Cagney!," exclaimed the New York Post. "Exhilarating! A York doodle dandy," shouted Time Out, while CurtainUp declared, "The most entertaining big-little musical currently on offer in Manhattan." "Dazzling! 'Cagney' has a snap in its step and a glint in its eye that makes it all but irresistible," said Lighting and Sound America. New York Theatre Guide observed, "The whole production lives up to its Hollywood antecedents... but it's Bill Castellino's quicksilver direction that makes the whole thing move and matter." While The New York Times simply stated, "Rousing! Joshua Bergasse's choreography could sell tap shoes to Tibetan monks." And TheaterMania shared, "A dream come true for lovers of tap dance."

The creative team includes James Morgan (set), Chip Schoonmaker (costumes), Michael Gilliam (lights), Janie Bullard(sound), and Mark Pirolo (projections). The Production Stage Manager is Larry Smiglewski. Carol Hanzel is the Casting Director and Brierpatch Productions provides General Management.

Cagney will play the following performance schedule: Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., Thursday & Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
