Cabaret, in a provocative staging directed by the nationally acclaimed Peter Rothstein, continues the Broadway Re-Imagined series, a collaboration between Theater Latté Da and Hennepin Theatre Trust. This production of Kander and Ebb's groundbreaking musical also features a stellar cast showcasing such local talent as Sally Wingert, just named the Star Tribune's 2013 Artist of the Year, Jim Detmar, Tyler Michaels, Kira Lace Hawkins and Sean Dooley. Cabaret runs today, January 15-February 9, 2014 at the historic Pantages Theatre, 710 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis. Tickets are on sale now at HennepinTheatreTrust.org, by calling 1.800.982.2787 and in person at the State Theatre Box Office.

Under the insightful hand of Rothstein, Latté Da's Artistic Director, this dynamic staging of Cabaret celebrates one of the greatest musicals of all time. Cabaret takes you inside the heart of 1930s' Berlin to experience the free-spirited decadence and heartbreaking desire that marked the time right before the Nazi party rose to power. Delving into the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Klub, which serves as a lens to the era's turbulence, and its star performer Sally Bowles, Cabaret is based on the play I Am a Camera adapted from Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories. The famed teamwork of music by John Kander and lyrics by Frank Ebb resulted in such memorable songs as "Money," "Willkommen," "Maybe this Time" and, of course, "Cabaret." The musical became a 1966 Broadway hit directed by Hal Prince and a 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli.

The Broadway Re-Imagined collaboration between Theater Latté Da and Hennepin Theatre Trust began last year with the popular production of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida. The series taps both organizations' strengths to take a fresh look at Broadway musicals and craft innovative stagings from the musical theater canon.

This Minneapolis production stars some of the area's best stage talent, with the renowned Sally Wingert as Fräulein Schneider, Jim Detmar as Herr Schultz, Kira Lace Hawkins as Sally Bowles, Sean Dooley as Cliff Bradshaw, Tyler Michaels as the Emcee, Ayesha Kinnunen as Fräulein Kost, Adam Qualls as Ernst Ludwig; and Jemar Michaels, Ed Williams; Krysti McKayla, Marso Wiita, Danielle Nelson, Emily Madigan, James Rodriguez and Jeffrey Nelson in the Kit Kat Klub ensemble.

Tom Hoch, President/CEO of Hennepin Theatre Trust, commented, "It's a joy to be working again with Theater Latté Da and Peter Rothstein through Cabaret and Broadway Re-Imagined. The series opens new doors for both organizations and contributes to the vitality of the Hennepin Cultural District."

"Cabaret is, without question, musical theater at its best-smart, sexy, wildly entertaining and profound. It's a thrill to tackle this masterpiece with an outstanding cast and an inventive design team," said Artistic Director Peter Rothstein. "Our continued collaboration with the Trust at the historic Pantages Theatre greatly enhances Theater Latté Da's commitment to expanding the art of adventurous musical theater."

The impetus for Broadway Re-Imagined builds from Theater Latté Da and Hennepin Theatre Trust's successful work together in January 2013 on Aida and, since 2008, with All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, co-presented with Cantus at the Pantages Theatre. Broadway Re-Imagined expands the Trust's continuum of work with such Minnesota talent as Wendy Knox and Frank Theatre, the Minneapolis Musical Theatre and local independent productions of 2 Sugars, Room for Cream and Standing on Ceremony which were all presented at the Trust's New Century Theatre.
