Bruce Greenwood to Portray Baby's Dad in ABC's DIRTY DANCING Reboot

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bruce Greeenwood will take on the role of Dr. Jake Houseman, Baby's father, in ABC's upcoming DIRTY DANCING remake. The part was portrayed by theater veteran Jerry Orbach in The 1987 hit film.

Written and executive produced by Jessica Sharzer, the three-hour musical project will tell the story of "Baby (Abigail Breslin), an innocent young woman who vacations with her affluent parents at a Catskill Mountains resort and gets swept off her feet by Johnny (Colt Prattes), a handsome, working-class dance instructor." Dr. Houseman is a overly protective father who worries for his daughter when she develops a relationship with the resort's staff.

As previously reported, Debra Messing will take on the role of Baby's mother, Marjorie. Also set to star are Nicole Scherzinger and Modern Family's Sarah Hyland.

Grammy nominee Adam Anders and Peer Astrom will serve as executive music producers, with Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, Bring It On) set as choreographer. The musical will be directed by Wayne Blair. An air date has not yet been announced.

Greenwood can currently be seen on FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson as Los Angeles County district attorney Gil Garcetti. His other TV credits includeMad Men, Star Trek Into Darkness, Thirteen Days and Flight.
