The Broadway Green Alliance (BGA) is sponsoring a textile drive for the theatre industry and fans today, April 22nd from 11:00am-2:00pm in Duffy Square at West 46th Street and Broadway. The collection drive is open to all shows, theaters, industry members and fans in a collaborative effort to make the annual spring cleaning a greener experience.

Past textile drive efforts garnered donations from the casts and crew of Broadway shows, numerous costume shops and theater related businesses, as well as theatre patrons on their way to Wednesday matinees. The efforts of BGA's drives over the last several years have collected well over 10,000 pounds of clothing and textiles for re-use and recycling.

Wearable Collections, a clothing recycling company, will repurpose or recycle 96% of all donations. Accepted items include: all used, clean, and dry clothing, including paired shoes, handbags, belts, hats, and household and backstage items such as curtains, linens, and towels and other reusable textiles. Carpeting, pillows, rugs, scraps, comforters, and bath mats are not accepted.

Wearable Collections will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Broadway Green Alliance to aid in the BGA's efforts to make Broadway greener. Although the BGA will not be distributing receipts for tax deductions, the IRS will allow donators to claim up to $500 worth of clothing donations without a receipt.

"The Broadway Green Alliance is pleased to be again working with Wearable Collections, an NYC based company that like the BGA wants to give members of the theatre community the resources to keep used costumes, towels, sheets and other textiles out of landfills," says BGA coordinator Rebekah Sale.

Industry members unable to attend the event are welcome to drop off their textiles at one of three locations: TWU Local 764 at 545 West 45th Street (second floor), Actors' Equity Association at 1560 Broadway (14th Floor), or the BGA office, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1312.
