Broadway Couple Marin Mazzie & Jason Danieley Celebrate Human Race Theatre's 30th Anniversary Tonight

Tonight, February 24, Broadway legends and husband and wife team Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley take to the Loft Theatre stage for one night only to help The Human Race Theatre Company celebrate its 30th anniversary in Broadway and Beyond, a musical review.

Hailed as "Broadway's Golden Couple" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Marin and Jason perform their lauded cabaret review, featuring musical numbers from both the "Great White Way" and the "Great American Songbook," filled with songs they introduced on Broadway in productions such as Ragtime, Passion, Kiss Me Kate, The Full Monty, Curtains, The Visit as well as popular standards from their many TV appearances, cabaret, concert hall and symphony performances around the world. Accompanying Marin and Jason at the piano is composer Joseph Thalken, known to Dayton area audiences as the composer of Harold and Maude, And the Curtain Rises and Was at The Human Race.

Together and individually, Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley have been delighting audiences nationally and internationally with their glorious voices, moving interpretations, and wonderful comic timing. "Their two-part harmonies are seamless [and] their theatrical timing while acting songs together and separately is impeccable" writes The New York Times. They are at ease in intimate concert settings as well as backed by the country's most distinguished symphony orchestras.

He Said/She Said, their newest cabaret offering, was premiered at The Cafe Carlyle in New York City and was seen touring the country and the high seas around South America in the fall of 2012 and throughout 2013. Their previous cabaret concert, Opposite You, has played in many of the country's leading night clubs and concert halls, namely Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, Joe's Pub, The Cinegrill, The Kennedy Center, The McCarter Theatre, Orange County PAC, New Jersey PAC, Chicago Humanities Festival, Bay Area Cabaret, and many more.

Marin and Jason also perform concert gala events combined with master classes in music theatre at universities, colleges, and various theatres and performing arts centers nationally; a sampling includes University of Miami, Boston Conservatory, Cap 21 at NYU, Western Michigan University, Encore Theatre Company, and Barrington Stage Company.

Marin and Jason have been frequent guest artists with The Boston Pops (also frequently touring), New York Pops, Philly Pops, New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke's, Grant Park Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, Collegiate Chorale, and the San Francisco Symphony, as well as appearing with the BBC Concert Orchestra; Utah, Ravinia Festival, Virginia, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo Symphonies; the LA Philharmonic; and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

Along with their solo and duo guest artist appearances, they have starred in staged concert versions of musicals with these same organizations, including Camelot, South Pacific, Carousel, Of Thee I Sing/Let 'Em Eat Cake, Candide, The Mikado, and tribute concerts honoring Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, Ahrens & Flaherty, Kander & Ebb, and of course, Stephen Sondheim.

Several of their concert appearances have been featured on television. PBS Great Performances, Live at Lincoln Center, and An Evening With the Pops (Boston Pops) have aired My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies, My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs, South Pacific, Camelot, Sondheim: The Birthday Concert, Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Jerry Herman Tribute, and two appearances on The Boston Pops Fourth of July specials.

Their first album, titled Opposite You, was given the distinction of "CD of the year" (National Public Radio). They are preparing for their next recording project together.

Broadway and Beyond is made possible by the Miriam Rosenthal Foundation for the Arts and KeyBank. The Residency Partner is the Musical Theatre Initiative at Wright State University, providing a master class with Marin and Jason for Wright State students.

Tickets for the performance of Broadway and Beyond are $50, $85 and a $110 for "Patron" level seat. Both the $85 and $110 "Patron" level tickets include a $25 tax deductible gift to The Human Race and a post-show dessert and coffee reception with Marin and Jason. The "Patron" level tickets also include a pre-show function with hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer. The performance is at the Metropolitan Art Center's Loft Theatre, located at 126 North Main Street in downtown Dayton, Ohio. Show time is 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, The Human Race Theatre Company was founded in 1986 and moved into the Metropolitan Arts Center in 1991, taking up residence at the 212-seat Loft Theatre. In addition to the Eichelberger Loft Season, The Human Race produces new works development and special event programming. Under the direction of President and Artistic Director Kevin Moore, the company also maintains education and outreach programs for children, teens and adults, as well as artist residencies in area schools, an In-School Tour, and a summer youth program.
