Broadway Agent and Producer Archer King Dies at 95

According to the Associated Press, Broadway producer and agent Archer King died in New York City of natural causes on July 19, 2012. He was 95.

King made his Broadway acting debut in the 1939 production Summer Night. He worked as a producer on Broadway's Miracle in the Mountains and Two Blind Mice in the 1940s and then as a production assistant for Mr. Barry's Etchings in 1950.

In 1957, King launched his own agency, Archer King Ltd. As an agent, he is credited with discovering many famous talents, including James Dean, Martin Sheen, Elizabeth Montgomery, Tommy Tune and Ron Howard, as well as representing Bette Midler and other stars.

In the late '70s and early '80s, King worked as RKO Pictures' head of production, which led him to produce Sweeney Todd starring Angela Lansbury, as well as The Gin Game, I Do! I Do! and more.

King is survived by his wife, Vivian, and his daughter, Elizabeth George.
