Brian Luna's 7TH AND 11TH DIMENSIONS to Continue at United Solo, 10/21 & Today
When lights came up after the debut performance of Brian Luna's solo show last weekend, people's eyes were red and puffy, but they were all grinning. 7th and 11th Dimensions is Luna's story of homelessness (and all the shame that comes with it), told with ceaseless sincerity and wit. It is an ode to his father, who never stopped fighting for a better life, and to 7-Eleven, a convenience store that wasn't just convenient but vital in getting Luna's family back on its feet.
To Luna, this show isn't just an opportunity to share his own story, it's also a chance to bring Latinos into the spotlight. Latinos are the biggest minority group in the U.S. and yet so few are represented in a non-stereotyped way in popular culture.
"We need to start recognizing individual voices rather than lumping people into groups," said Luna, "I'm hoping that by raising my voice I might inspire others to do the same."
7th and 11th Dimensions is written and performed by Brian Luna and directed by Letia Clouston. It is featured in the United Solo Theater Festival at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd St. NY, NY 10036). The first performance on Oct 12, 2013 played to a sold out house. The next performances are Oct. 21, 2013 and Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.!
