Rock legend Boz Scaggs brings The Memphis Tour to Philadelphia in support of recent album release, Memphis (March 2013), on Saturday, May 10 at 8 p.m. in the Merriam Theater.

The "Lido Shuffle" star Boz Scaggs first achieved notoriety in the 60s as part of the Steve Miller Band. His guitar and vocal talents took center stage with a solo career in the '70s with numerous critically acclaimed hits, "Lowdown" and "Silk Degrees," to name a few.

Produced by Steve Jordan, Memphis is Scaggs' first album of studio work in the past five years, recorded at the legendary Royal Studio in Memphis. The album draws inspiration from his southern roots, and is a continued exploration of R&B, soul and blues with distinctive touches on classics such as "Rainy Night in Georgia," "Corinna Corinna," and "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl," as well as featuring two new compositions.

"Memphis...incorporates the aura of the old Memphis sound studios and channels it through a soulful song mix out of the 70's south.... you can virtually still hear the great sessions of Al Green seeping through each track of this release."-Ourvinyl.tv

Tickets are available from $49 to $69 at kimmelcenter.org, 215-893-1999, or at the Kimmel Center Box Office located on Broad and Spruce streets, Philadelphia, Pa. (open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., later on performance evenings).

William Royce Boz Scaggs first found acclaim as a member of the Steve Miller Band, but also enjoyed success in his solo career beginning in 1965 with the release of his first solo recording Boz. After leaving the Steve Miller Band, he signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records and debuted his second album, Boz Scaggs, which was produced by Rolling Stone founder, Jann Wenner. Featuring the renowned Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Duane Allman and the slow-burn-to-high-heat track, "Loan Me a Dime," the album received critical acclaim, noticed by Columbia Records.

After the release of four albums with Columbia Records, Moments, Boz Scaggs and Band, My Time, and Slow Dancer, Scaggs hit it big in 1976, achieving multi-platinum success with Silk Degrees. This album included hits like "Lido Shuffle," "What Can I Say," "We're All Alone," and the Grammy Award winning "Lowdown" for Best R&B Song.

The nineties found Scaggs signed to Virgin Records, and he released several albums of original material, including the Grammy-nominated album Come On Home. His last album, Speak Low, was released in 2008 and allowed him to experiment with his sound, featuring a string quartet with harp and woodwinds. Scaggs continued on a lauded and multi-genre musical journey with successes in film soundtracks. He and his band continue to tour worldwide and Scaggs also performs alongside Donald Fagan and Michael McDonald in their band billed as The Dukes of September.
