Bobby Cannavale Talks Dancing with Cameron Diaz in ANNIE Remake

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Broadway and big screen star Bobby Cannavale talked about working with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx on Will Gluck's ANNIE movie remake, in which he plays an advisor to Daddy Warbucks (Foxx) -- a part that will be unfamiliar to fans of the stage musical or the 1982 film.

"I've always wanted to do a musical," he told the magazine. "I'd been rehearsing this big dance scene with Cameron Diaz since September and we finally shot it a couple weeks ago. Every film I try to do something that I've never done before. It's tough in this business, you know? People see you do something they like and then they just want to see you do it over and over again. That's why I did this movie."

Commenting on Jamie Foxx, Cannavale added: "Listen, Jamie Foxx could run for mayor if he felt like it. He's the funniest guy -- that guy can mimic anybody."

The new adaptation of ANNIE is currently filming in New York City. Starring Quvenzhane Wallis in the role of America's favorite orphan and Diaz as cruel Orphan patron Miss Hannigan, the film is set to be released on December 19th. Rose Byrne is also in the cast.

ANNIE features a script recently revised by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. Director Gluck will also serve as a producer on the film along with James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Shawn Carter aka Jay Z, Jay Brown and Tyran Smith.

The Broadway musical is based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre). It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical's songs "Tomorrow" and "Hard-Knock Life" are among its most popular musical numbers. ANNIE, directed by James Lapine, is currently playing on Broadway.

For the second year in a row Cannavale wa nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Dr. Mike Cruz on Showtime's NURSE JACKIE. He won the Emmy for his role of Gyp on HBO's BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Cannavale has also appeared in three dozen films, from the absurd, PAUL BLART MALL COP, to the critically acclaimed WIN WIN, opposite Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Tambor, and Broadway's Nina Arianda. His most recent project BLUE JASMINE just hit theaters.

The actor was nominated for his first Tony Award in his Broadway debut in the immensely talented cast of 2007's MAURITIUS. Since, he has returned to Broadway three times, including twice in the past year. He was again nominated for a Tony, opposite Chris Rock, in 2011's MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT, then he joined Al Pacino in the revival of GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, and finally this spring he starred in the revival of Clifford Odets' THE BIG KNIFE.
