Baby Crow Productions Presents 'LIVE' FROM THE BULLET STOPPER, 9/13-9/14

This September Baby Crow Productions is pleased to present "Live" from the Bullet Stopper, written by Lorne Svarc, directed by Margaret Grace Hee, and collaboratively imagined and performed by Joy Donze*, Gabriella Bonomo, Taylor Lhamon and Graham Miles.

Like most compelling works of drama, "Live" from the Bullet-Stopper began with a performance art piece involving wounded soldiers, stripping and copious amounts of ketchup. Inspired by this daring piece, we set out to investigate- through movement, improvisation, and sapphism - the relationship between war and pornography. How are they the same? How are they different? Which one arouses Dick Cheney more? This exploration led the performers to create Burlesque characters, who each represented different parts of the American attitude toward war - jingoism, freedom, blind patriotism, and the deification of the soldier.

Alongside, these larger than life characters, the performers conducted interviews with military veterans from various branches of the armed forces. This gave us various portraits of what it is really like serving in the military. We transformed these portraits into monologues, depicting, without political or moral judgment, the everyday lives of soldiers.

Somehow, through pain, tears, and shear willpower, we merged these two pieces into one magical, sexy, politically charged cabaret/strip show which, explores the military experience and how we experience the military.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Lorne Svarc (Playwright) is a Canadian playwright, living in New York City. His plays include The Florence Harding Centre (Disastrous Miracles Boston), A Multidisciplinary Approach to Evil (Grama Rose Productions, Montreal FRINGE 2012), Paraphilia: Everyone has a Sexual Disorder (Grama Rose Productions, Montreal FRINGE 2013). He specializes in devised theatre, focusing on the political, the "inappropriate" and the utterly bizarre. He is currently pursuing his MFA in Playwriting at the New School for Drama.

Margaret Grace (Director) is a New York based theatre artist focused on developing new plays and devised work. She is the founding artistic director of Baby Crow Productions. Margaret is currently an MFA Directing student at the New School for Drama. As a director Margaret has worked with Ugly Rhino, Wide Eyed Productions, Dream Theatre, The Midtown Int. Play Festival, and Fringe NYC. Assistant Credits include: The Tempest, dir. Geoffrey Kent (Colorado Shakespeare Festival);Seawife, dir. Liz Carlson (Cape Cod Theatre Project); The Boys Room, dir. As an actress she has worked with Victory Gardens, Eclipse Theater, Adventure Stage, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Soft Cage Films, The Agency, New School for Drama, among others.
