Cutting-Edge Composers is kicking off the fall with one of our favorite new composers, Kevin Fogarty. Dogfight's Steven Booth sang his song "Perfectly Happy" at our NYMF concert.
Kevin had this to say about writing it:
"'Perfectly Happy' is from a song cycle called "The Five Year Plan" where all of the characters are struggling with the fact they're not where they want to be - in their jobs, their relationships, their lives. The song flowed from my own personal frustrations and fears, but I think it's something that others can relate to, especially artists. The character realizes his life has a specific purpose and apart from that, he can never find real happiness."
Kevin Fogarty is a contemporary musical theatre composer/lyricist living and working in New York. He was a finalist for the 2011 John Wallowitch Award and selected composer for the New Voices at CUA Music Festival in Washington D.C. In 2009, his musical Call Me Home received a workshop production at Montgomery Bell Academy and was selected for the 2011 Manhattan Repertory Theatre Summerfest. His song cycle The 5 Year Plan premiered in Nashville, TN in 2011 and in 2012 he made his New York debut presenting selections from his musicals in a concert produced by the New York Theatre Barn. He was a featured composer on Cutting-Edge Composers III, a concert series featured at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). kevinfogartymusic.com
