The annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), which took place recently in the entertainment city LA had more than a few, surprises in store for the serious lovers of alternate films. Not only the festival opened with the movie, Lipstick Under My Burkha, which despite a lot of intrigue in India struggled with censorship issues but the festival also recognized films from India that otherwise go unnoticed despite some acclaimed work. A rare language film made in Rajbangshi titled The Golden Wing went on to receive the Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature. Another film titled Devi, won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short in the 2017 edition of the festival. A Billion Colour Story bagged the coveted award for the favorite narrative feature film and An Insignificant Man won the favorite documentary award.

The Golden Wing remained the talk of the festival for its beautiful integration of class system ans society and the cultural ramifications therein.

The 15th annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) took place from April 5-9, 2017 at Regal L.A. LIVE: A Barco Innovation Center in Los Angeles, California. The five-day festival is a platform for the latest in global Indian cinema and brings together the two largest entertainment industries in the world - Hollywood and India.

Best Short Film: DEVI, directed by Karishma Dube

Short Film Special Mention: GUDH, directed by Saurav Rai

AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARDS

Best Feature (Documentary): AN INSIGNIFICANT MAN, directed by Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla.

Best Feature (Narrative): A BILLION COLOUR STORY, Padmakumar Narasimhamurthy

Best Short: AABA, directed by Amar Kaushik
