BWW Exclusive: MARY POPPINS Cast Memories- Nicolas Dromard

As the Broadway production of Mary Poppins comes to a close, we asked current and original principle cast members, as well as current cast members who have been with the show since day one, to share with us some memories and tell us what being a part of the magic has meant to them. Nicolas Dromard, who is the current 'Bert,' shared:
The first time I went on for the role of Bert, I was so excited and anxious to finally go on. My heart was beating a mile a minute right from when I pop out the chimney until 3/4 of act one, when right before Chim Chim Cheree, I rode down the nursery roof and nothing else is happening on stage, a still moment when all the audience sees is Bert riding down on the roof while singing that Oscar winning song. That moment right there was so magical, peaceful and intimate, I will never forget it. It has been by far my favorite moment of any show I've ever done. Oh and tap dancing on the ceiling. I'm sure I'll never get to do that ever again!
I have been part of the show on and off for the last 4 1/2 years. It has been a gift that keeps giving. First by allowing me to swing it on Broadway and understudy Bert. Then I was fortunate enough to be cast as Bert to replace Gavin on the tour, and finally to replace Gavin again and do it on Broadway in the leading role. Being the closing Bert is an honor and I will forever cherish this experience. This is the show that I've performed the longest and it will always hold a special part in my heart.
Mary Poppins will conclude Broadway run at The New Amsterdam Theatre Sunday, March 3, 2013 after 2619 performances and more than six years. With attendance totaling nearly four million guests, the show has been seen by more people in the last six years than any Broadway show except Wicked and The Lion King. Mary Poppins opened on Broadway in 2006, just two years after debuting in London's West End, where it had received nine Olivier Award nominations and won Olivier, Evening Standard and WhatsOnStage Awards. The Broadway production received 25 major theatrical award nominations, winning Tony and Drama Desk Awards.
Mary Poppins will rank as the 22nd longest-running show in Broadway history by the time its run is complete, ranking between Best Musical winners Hairspray and Avenue Q on the list of long runs. For tickets, visit: http://www.marypoppins.com/tickets
