Along with my Broadway debut in "On the Town", I'm thrilled to be making my blogging debut. You can expect to hear about all the exciting happenings with our show leading up to our big opening night on October 16th. This has been an incredible journey. An exhilarating three-week whirlwind of rehearsals has led us to our first week of tech! We pretty much attempted our first stop and start run through of our show by the middle of our second week of rehearsals. The remainder of the time, our director John Rando and choreographer Josh Bergasse chipped at the bit, getting the show in tip top shape before we got into the theatre.

Broadway baby is such a fitting term for those of us making our Broadway debuts. Everything is fascinating. It's like discovering your fingers and toes for the very first time. During our orientation meeting, we met the village it took (and is taking) to get our show up and running. And boy, do we have a fine village. Things like costume fittings, our first read-thru, seeing the set for the first time, and putting on a broadway mic for the first time are all things that got me titillated!

Also, babies need rules and boundaries. Yesterday was our first day of tech. In the opening scene, John decided that our starting position should be further onstage. Naturally, I reached down to grab my spike tape to move it--before i knew it I had five different people all rushing over to me like I was a baby reaching for the stove. Needless to say, I learned my lesson.

Being in a big union house, with a big Broadway Show, there are several things to remember: Don't touch anything unless its choreographed/staged and don't speak unless you are spoken to. I'm learning that these things help keep everyone safe and keeps everything moving along. Everyone keeps saying that tech is a pain in the ass, but I'm finding it has been just fine. Stress free. Exciting. Everyone looks so amazing. The space looks amazing. Amazing amazing amazing. All of it is amazing. Everytime we get to a new scene, it is like unwrapping a little gift box. Inside is the culmination of our whole creative team's vision for the upcoming scene we are teching. What can I say? We have a hit show on our hands. I can't wait to head back into the theatre for day 2 of tech!
