ANDRÉ MEHMARI
Activate: MDCulture - DWNTWN Art Days
Friday, September 20, 2013 - 8 PM (Freedom Tower)
By adding the rhythms of his native Brazil, André Mehmari has created a language of unprecedented expressive power that is helping define music in the 21st century. Mehmari is a fluent jazz improviser, an imaginative composer, a virtuoso pianist, a dynamic Brazilian and someone who loves to make his piano sing, all wrapped into one.

OLA MUSIC FEST
Friday, October 11, 2013 - 9 PM (Grand Central)
From electropico to funk, from psychedelic to cumbia, from dancehall to hip-hop, OLA represents the new wave of Latin music popping up across the globe. Catch this one-night event and experience the sounds of Miami's Elastic Bond and Mr. Pauer, Colombia's Meridian Brothers, Peru's Dengue Dengue Dengue! and Puerto Rico's Los Chinchillos del Caribe in an exciting opening to MDC Live Arts' 23rd season.

ARTURO O'FARRILL & THE AFRO LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE
@ Jazz Under the Stars
Friday, November 1, 2013 - 6:30 PM (MDC Kendall Campus - Fred Shaw Plaza)
Presented in cooperation with MDC Kendall Campus' long-running Jazz Under the Stars concert series, Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill will take us to new heights in Latin jazz. Together O'Farrill, his musicians and top Miami players will create an exciting big band celebrating the legacy of Arturo's father, Chico O'Farrill with a vibrant program that spans everything from Latin jazz standards to Jewish classics in Afro-Latin big band form!

THE MANGANIYAR SEDUCTION
Friday, November 8, 2013 - 8 PM (Miami Dade County Auditorium)
Equal parts rock concert, global music performance and dazzling theatrical experience, The Manganiyar Seduction is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that creates a rapturous union between the traditional music of the Manganiyars (a caste of singers and instrumentalists from Rajasthan in northern India) and the visual seduction of Amsterdam's red light district.

NORA CHIPAUMIRE
in Miriam
January 24-25, 2014 - 8 PM (The Light Box at Goldman Warehouse)
With Miriam, renowned choreographer and dancer Nora Chipaumire creates her first character-driven work, inspired by South African singer and activist Miriam Makeba - a deeply personal dance-theatre performance that looks closely at the tensions women face between public expectations and private desires, between selflessness and ambition, and between the perfection and sacrifice of the feminine ideal.

NATIONAL THEATRE OF SCOTLAND
in The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart
February 19-23, 2014 at The Garret (Grand Central)
Pull up a chair and whet your whistle for an evening of anarchic theater, live music and strange goings-on as MDC Live Arts takes the theater into a bar with this run-away hit of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. One wintry evening, Prudencia Hart, an uptight academic, finds herself trapped in a secluded bar with strangers, only to be swept away on an enchanting, dream-like journey of self-discovery filled with magical moments, devilish encounters and wittily wild karaoke.

SAM GREEN & YO LA TENGO
in The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller
Saturday, March 22, 2014 - 6:30 & 9:30 PM (Colony Theatre)
A unique collaboration between two independent pioneers of film and music, The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is a new "live documentary" by Academy Award-nominated director Sam Green, featuring a live score by the legendary indie rock band Yo La Tengo. The film traces the career of futurist, architect, engineer, inventor and author R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983), one the most unique American minds of the last century.

TREY McINTYRE PROJECT
Saturday, April 12, 2014 - 8 PM (South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center)
In six short years, Trey McIntyre Project has become one of the most in-demand, acclaimed dance companies in the United States. Trey McIntyre embraces all forms of movement, set to a repertoire that spans from rock and classical to jazz and folk.

BALOJI & L'ORCHESTRE DE LA KATUBA
Friday, April 25, 2014 - 9 PM (The Stage)
Baloji means "sorcerer", a fitting name for a man who has transformed himself from one of the most successful MC's from the French scene into a producer, musician, rapper and all-round musical wizard. His music takes us back to the future: where the lyrical edge of hip-hop's pioneers meets classic Congolese rumba and '60s soul.
