You CAN go home again as Marc Shaiman proved on Monday, April 26th, by heading to Bound Brook, NJ for a benefit for the Brook Arts Center. "An Evening With Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman" also featured Annie Golden and Christine Ebersole - with Paige Price as host!
The evening was heaven for Marc, who told BroadwayWorld.com, "It had all my favorite ingredients for a magical evening. Great old friends, community theater memories and my two personal favorites, being on mic and in the spotlight!"
Shaiman opened the evening with "Big, Blonde and Beautiful" from HAIRSPRAY and worked the audience up into a frenzy before it was done. "I don't know how that woman does this 8 times a week," Marc wheezed when it was done - faux collapsing on the stage to everyone's delight.
Songs were performed from Marc and Scott's various productions throughout the years with a segment of the evening was also dedicated to Marc's "goddess" - Bette Midler. Before the night was through, Shaiman shared with the audience his most recent experience writing lyrics and working with Donald Trump and Harry Connickm, Jr. for a benefit Katie Couric organized on the Queen Mary.
With witty and poignant stories weaving in and out of the musical numbers, Shaiman proved the old addage, "Local Boy Makes Good". The bonus for those in attendance - a special sneak preview of the TONY Award-winning duo's newest song from their musical adaptation of "Catch Me If You Can". BroadwayWorld.com is pleased to offer the special exclusive sneak peak video of "Fifty Checks" below!

This exclusive video clip is the number that closed "An Evening With Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman." Marc set up the song by explaining that "due to his active imagination, when Frank's parents sing to him they're not just mom and dad - they are his very own Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. In this number, Frank, Sr. charms Frank Jr into realizing what treasures are waiting to be unlocked from receiving his very first checkbook..." |
