Jodee Nimerichter, Director of the American Dance Festival (ADF), today announced ADF's first New York City season, running August 1-6 at The Joyce Theater. The season includes the New York City debut of Russian choreographer Tatiana Baganova's Provincial Dances Theatre and the return of Miami's Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre with a new ADF commissioned work.

Throughout its history, ADF has played a significant role in nurturing and supporting the careers of talented choreographers, and this summer, ADF, for the first time in its history, will present a week of performances in New York City showcasing the work of two uniquely talented choreographers, Tatiana Baganova from Ekaterinburg, Russia and Rosie Herrera from Miami, FL. These two artists, from such varied backgrounds, produce work that is a reflection of their unique cultural experiences, work that deserves to be seen in the dance capital of the world.

Tatiana Baganova was introduced to ADF when she participated in ADF's first mini-ADF festival in Moscow (1992) and an international linkage program in her home of Ekaterinburg in 1993. Subsequently, she was in residence at ADF with Theatre Provincial Dances, then led by Lev Shulman, in 1993 and 1994. In 1994, the company presented short works and one of those was choreographed by Tatiana. Since then, Tatiana has been been invited to participate in ADF's International Choreographers Commissioning Program (ICCP) or Past/Forward program five times (1999, 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2010). Each time she created highly imaginative dance theater works on ADF students that were performed on a shared-program as part of the season. Some of those works, including, Sepia, were restaged for her company. Tatiana's company performed at ADF in 2004 and 2006. ADF looks forward to welcoming the company back to Durham with two of her most powerful works and introducing her to New York audiences.

Rosie Herrera was invited to stage her work Various Stages of Drowning on ADF students in 2009. She has returned to ADF with her company in 2010, 2011 and 2013 and created a new work on ADF students in 2013. In total, ADF has supported the commissioning of 5 new works by Rosie. ADF Director Jodee Nimerichter presented her work as part of FOCUS 2013 at The Joyce Theater, and she organized her company's first solo program in New York City in partnership with the Baryshnikov Arts Center and The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Inc. in 2013.

"We are thrilled to be able to present the work of these two extraordinary choreographers with New York audiences. These are two formidable women making powerful works of dance theater," said Nimerichter.

The performances of Provincial Dances Theatre is presented by ADF with support by the Trust for Mutual Understanding. The presentation of a new work by Rosie Herrera is commissioned by ADF with support from the Doris Duke/SHS Foundations Award for New Dance with additional support provided by Hilton Durham near Duke University. ADF's NY performances are supported by the SHS Foundation.

Founded in 1934 in Bennington, Vermont, ADF remains an international magnet for choreographers, dancers, teachers, students, critics, musicians, and scholars to learn and create in a supportive environment. ADF's wide range of programs includes performances, artist services, educational programs and classes, community outreach, national and international projects, archives, humanities projects, publications, and media projects. ADF has been presenting the best in modern dance for 83 years. americandancefestival.org.
