The dramatic and comedic skills of a talented group of Senior Citizens will be on full display this Thursday, June 29 when Braata Productions presents Happy Seniors- We Are Here at the Theodora G. Jackson Adult Center in Jamaica Queens.

Happy Seniors - We Are Here is presented by Braata Productions with funding from the New York City SU CASA Initiative.

The SU CASA (Spanish for "Your House") initiative is a community arts engagement program that places artists and organizations in residence at senior citizen centers across the five boroughs of New York City. The program, funded by the New York City Council, provides grants to artists and entities for the creation and delivery of arts programming for seniors.

During the programme, teaching artists engage participating seniors in an art project or series of cultural programs over the course of the residency, which culminates in a public presentation to showcase the efforts of the participants.

At the Theodora G. Jackson Adult Center, award winning actress, playwright and director Joyce Sylvester has been artist in residence for several months, and collaborated with the center's members in creating a series of characters and skits for this Thursday's presentation.

According to production notes, the motley crew of interesting characters created for the presentation include "a chairperson, a talk show host, a judge, a French teacher, a Caribbean Chef, and 2 ladies fussing about a hat.....How they interact and how their stories intertwine forms the basis for a clever and witty narrative that is sure to delight any audience."

Braata Productions Founder and Executive Director Andrew Clarke, describes the preparation process and culminating presentation as "A wonderful opportunity for these vibrant seniors to show us all how much fun being a senior can be. But it also highlights the importance of the SU CASA Initiative in promoting the overall well being of its senior participants, by keeping them active and engaged. So we at Braata are committed to playing our part in the future by continuing to work with SU CASA."

Happy Seniors - We Are Here gets underway at 1pm sharp. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The Theodora G. Jackson Adult Center is located 92-47 165 Street, Jamaica, NY 11433.
