Alan Cumming to Join Aguilera, Tucci, Bell and Cher in 'Burlesque'

Comingsoon.net is reporting that Alan Cumming will join the cast of "Burlesque," a musical drama in which the Tony winning actor will star alongside songstress Christina Aguilera.

Stanley Tucci and Kristen Bell have also recently joined the casting for "Burlesque." Cher has officially signed on to star alongside Christina Aguilera in the Screen Gems' movie musical "Burlesque". The Oscar winning singer/actress will be playing the owner of the burlesque club where Aguilera's character works.

Cumming is set to play the club's gender-bending host and master of ceremonies. Filming begins November 9th reports the Comingsoon.net.

Christina Aguilera is set to make her big screen debut with the film, which will be directed by Steve Antin, the brother of Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin. Antin wrote the script, which was revised by "Erin Brockovich" writer Susannah Grant, with Aguilera in mind.

While her voice has been heard in many films, "Burlesque" will mark the first time Cher will be seen singing in a film she stars in, Variety reports. Cher last starred in "Tea With Mussolini" in 1999.

The movie is a contemporary musical about "an ambitious smalltown girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club." Cher's character will serve as Aguilera's mentor in the film. Donald De Line is producing through his De Line Pictures banner. Production begins Nov. 9, and the pic is set for a Thanksgiving release next year.

Alan Cumming is scheduled to star as Norman Osborn (aka Green Goblin), Spider-Man's most notorious nemesis in the upcoming Broadway musical SPIDER-MAN, TURN OFF THE DARK. Alan won the Tony ®, Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards for his outstanding performance in Cabaret. Other Broadway credits include The Threepenny Opera and Design For Living. His films include the soon-to-be-released The Tempest (directed by Julie Taymor), Titus (also directed by Julie Taymor), X2: X-Men United, Sweet Land (Independent Spirit Award), The Spy Kids Trilogy, Eyes Wide Shut and The Anniversary Party, which he wrote and directed. His London stage appearances include Hamlet, Accidental Death of an Anarchist (Olivier Award), Bent and The Bacchae. He was recently made an O.B.E. in the Queen's Birthday Honors List.
