As announced this morning, award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater have been nominated for a 2013 Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for their song "More Or Less The Kind Of Thing You May Or May Not Possibly See On Broadway", which aired during the "Sing Like A Larry Bird" episode of ABC's The Neighbors this season.

If the duo takes home the award, Menken will have achieved the fabled "EGOT" -- that is, he will have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. He would will join an elite group of individuals with "EGOT" status. Among the crème de la crème are Richard Rodgers, Marvin Hamlisch and Mel Brooks.

In a recent interview with BroadwayWorld, Menken spoke about the possibility of achieving the EGOT. "TV is a medium where I've been an outsider for the most part...it's not an area I've really been deeply involved in, so it would be a level of welcome and acceptance that would be extraordinary," he said. "And is it likely to happen? I don't know. I have not a clue, to be honest. But I put my best foot forward, and if it works out, great, and if not, I still want to keep working in television, as well as the stage."

Eight-time Academy Award-winner Alan Menken is known for his work on LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, as well as Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALADDIN, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, POCAHANTAS, ENCHANTED and TANGLED, which brought him his first Grammy Award for "I See The Light".

Menken has also composed for Broadway's NEWSIES, for which he won a Tony Award, as well as SISTER ACT and LEAP OF FAITH. He is currently redeveloping ALADDIN and HUNCHBACK for Broadway, among other projects.

Tune in to this year's Primetime Emmy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, September 22, 2013.
